Andrea and Brian really invigorated my creativity when they wanted to bring along a couch for their engagement session. I was so excited to play with this a bit. The only way I can describe Kristine on her wedding day on April 2nd is stunning. She made my job easy. Heather, Chandra and I had a wonderful day with Kristine and Bill on their wedding day. Their families were so inviting and warm with us. Bill and Kristine are actually from Long Beach, CA and I didn't even get to meet them until just before the wedding. The beautiful Oregon weather defines the Pacific Northwest and gives us the beautiful green state we love so much, but it also gets in the way of outdoor engagement sessions. Not to fear! Sabrina and Jesse got married January 21, 2010 at The Treasury in downtown Portland. Sabrina was stunning. They are beautiful together and their wedding went off without a hitch. Melissa and I had a great time with this warm and loving couple and their families. I was inspired by their story...they knew each other from high school and found their way to each other later. Sabrina told me that Jesse is her rock. Best Wishes to them and I hope they are enjoying their honeymoon!

I was so lucky to have an opportunity to take a workshop this last week from Kathi Lamm - famous pet photographer. The subjects for the class were ELEVEN 7 1/2 week old Irish Setter puppies. I didn't really think it was possible, but Kathi has pet photography down to a science. She topped her old record of 10 with this photo shoot and got adorable shots of all eleven pups. I learned so much and was so thankful for the opportunity to learn from Kathi. Here is the proof...

Joyce and Bob Balaski Wedding

It was a beautiful day and a beautiful wedding yesterday with Mr and Mrs Balaski. The entire family and friends were so warm and inviting. Casey and I felt like we were truly amidst friends and family, celebrating the love of Joyce and Bob. The ceremony was held at the Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Oswego and the reception was at the lovely Lake Oswego Country Club. It was a grand event with many, many friends and family there to celebrate with the wonderful couple. We had off and on rain but we were lucky enough to have a few minutes out on the green at the 8th hole to get a couple of great shots of the newlyweds. Casey and I were honored to be a part of this special day and thanks to Joyce and Bob, and all the lovely people there for including us in this special day. Jessica and Drew - Engagement

I got to spend some time yesterday with Jessica and Drew. They wanted an engagement shoot that was a little more uninhibited - catching them doing what they together. We started at Jessica's house and I captured images of something they do a lot together - reading. And then we traveled to Ventura Park in Portland. A glorious day, wonderful people, a lovely setting and a beautiful bride marrying the man she loves. Tia and Gary Hepting married on Saturday, May 8, 2010 in the West Linn Performing Arts Center. It was a gorgeous ceremony. It has to be one of the most beautiful I have had the honor of being a part of. The reception was at the Governor Hotel in downtown Portland and it was a great celebration of the love that Tia and Gary share. I stopped by the family celebration at Garys' parents house the following day to drop off the newlyweds Honeymoon Mini Book and the family was so warm and welcoming. They invited me in to partake some delicious goodies - the best was the Maryland Crab Cakes. I learned the perfect way to prepare and eat these tasty treats. Thank you to Tia and Gary and all your family for letting Melissa and me be a part of your special day.

I was lucky to have an opportunity to photography Tabby and Nathan yesterday. They are a a great couple who like to laugh and have fun. They have a beautiful 10 month old daughter, Kallista, who was perfectly content watching her mom and dad get their pictures taken and musing over the dogs that were going by. Tabby and Nathan are a perfect match for each other. It's hard to find that perfect person, the one that we are intended to be with and we don't always get it right the first time or the second time. When I woke up Monday morning, I looked outside and saw gray skies and rain. I said out loud..."Nooooo!" It just couldn't rain on Nicole and Kris! The wonderfully unpredictable Oregon weather has sure made it difficult for getting our engagement shoots in over the last several weeks. It was really up in the air in the beginning of the day on Tuesday, but by the late afternoon the skies had calmed down and it was nice enough that I was able to spend some time with Marquelle and Jared at Cook Park. They are such a sweet couple. They played on the swings and the playground and even got down on the damp ground for a couple of great shots. I look forward to their wedding coming up on November 12, 2010 in Ashland. The Southern Medford area is my old stomping grounds from my childhood and I am excited to see the newly renovated Ashland Springs Hotel, where Marq and Jared will be getting married. Tia and Gary Engagement Shoot

Yesterday I was able to spend time with the beautiful couple, Tia and Gary. We weren't quite sure if the weather would hold out for us. We were on the phone not long before our session was to begin and it was coming down pretty good. Just as we both arrived, the skies cleared up for a short time so we could get some great engagement photos with this wonderful couple. Tia and Gary's wedding is coming up soon. Engagement Sessions with Camera Art and What to Wear

As I mentioned in my earlier post, we are beginning to schedule our 2010 engagement shoots. Our first one was with Stephanie and Ben and you can see a few of their images below or view their entire album at Camera Art Photography under View Your Session. I have begun contacting all of our current wedding couples for the 2010 season to schedule your sessions. If you haven't heard from me, please feel free to email or call me.

Here is some information on our approach and what's included in your engagement portrait session.

Engagement portraits are the first fun part of the wedding photography experience and Camera Art includes an engagement photo shoot with each wedding we book. Through imagery, we strive to show the couples love and chemistry, their joy from being together and do that with a variety of creative looks.

Each engagement shoot is different. It is a collaborative process. We try to learn more about the personality of each couple and capture that in your images. Each engagement session is important for establishing a relationship and building trust between the couple and the photographers prior to the wedding day.

You will usually spend 1 to 2 hours with one photographer – Carrie. We will spend time at our indoor studio with professional lighting equipment and an outdoor location. We have obtained great engagement photos from local area parks and sites which we will recommend. We can accommodate an alternate location that has special meaning to you as a couple. There is one place that has special meaning for us – we are big fans of Dawson Creek Park. It is located near our Studio and provides endless opportunities for interesting backgrounds and provides a variety of looks for your final images.

You can expect between 25 – 40 final images. Your images will be loaded on our website at www.cameraartphoto.com under the View Your Session tab within 3 – 4 days after your session. You will receive an email letting you know your images are available for viewing with a link. If you will need a password protection for your images, please let us know prior to uploading your images. You will be able to browse previews on-line and order prints. You can also purchase individual digital images to reproduce for your Save the Date or Invitations or for whatever purpose you need or you can purchase the entire collection of digital images. Please ask us for the current season pricing.

You can use Camera Art for your engagement photos even if you don’t use us for your wedding. Separate engagement portrait sessions are $200. You get an outdoor session in a place of your choice in the Portland Metro area. If you would like your digital images from your session, the cost is $399 for your session and a DVD containing your high-resolution digital images with a shared copyright release.

I get lots of questions from our couples about what they should wear for their engagement shoot. Here are some basic principles to help you prepare.

Engagement Photo Shoot – What to Wear

The basic principles of dressing for an engagement photo session are to wear clothing that you can sit, stand and walk comfortably in because you will be moving around quite a bit for a variety of different photos. You want to choose clothing that compliments each other. It is important to stay away from busy or loud colors or patterns, words or logos on your clothing. Select clothing styles that reflect who you are. You can go for a relaxed style with khaki and blue tones that look great together or light colored tones to keep things casual and fun. Earthy color tones compliment each other also. White t-shirts and blue jeans is a great look, if that’s your style. Keep in mind that darker colors are most slimming on women. Be sure to maintain the same level of formality in both your outfits. Give your shoes the same attention you give your outfit – they will likely be in some of the photos. Dress appropriately for the weather. Layers are a good thing.

If we have an indoor/outdoor shoot planned, you can bring a change of clothes for some variety.

Petite Bon Bons

Camera Art had the honor of photographing a new division of Le Paperie, called Petite Bon Bons. Robert Griffen and myself photographed their amazing creations of candies and glass and just plain fun and goodness! This is a children's play arrangement for special events. Everything you need to keep the lil' ones busy. And I was certainly having quite a sweet tooth while photographing this amazing display of candies and goodies. I really wanted to give those licorice a try in the back row...

I was thankful that Thu was willing to let me try. These were the best licorice I have ever tasted, hands down!

The Portland Bridal Show

The Portland Bridal Show was this last weekend on January 16 and 17. We had a wonderful time meeting all the upcoming 2010 and 2011 brides (and some grooms). We are beginning to book weddings with some wonderful couples and we are so excited to be a part of their special day and capture their wedding imagery of memories. You can also purchase high-resolution digital images on DVD with release of copyright to you to reprint, share your memories or create your own album.
